The Island was found in the 12Th Century. The island has one of the best preserved Swahili architecture, while Old town which is an 18Th Century build town using coral, gives the old town a soft pink glow. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. It is said that there are only five (5) cars on the Island with the most popular means of transport being donkeys. The Island has beautiful sunsets which are best enjoyed when you take dhow trips.
